Is advertising for an all female band discrimination?

How far do we take discrimination complaints? If the girls throw a bridal shower, can they advertise for a women only band? In Michigan, a woman put an ad on the church bulletin board for a Christian roommate. She is being fined for violating law. Where do we draw the line on 'fairness' ?
